Certification of Training in Asset Management – or CTAM – is an online course developed by industry leaders from four universities, sponsored by US EPA and administered by Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) through “Oncourse” – IUPUI’s online course management platform. The curriculum consists of 3 phases and includes all the resources to study and prepare for the exam, including a 7-chapter manual, Guide to Water and Wastewater Asset Management. Upon completion of the following course phases, each participant will receive a formal Certificate of Training in Asset Management.Phase 1
Fundamentals – Mastery of fundamental concepts, chapter exams and exercises, studying for the certification exam and taking the online exam.
Guide to Water and Wastewater Asset Management

Chapter 1 – Introduction to Asset ManagementObjectives: Provide the fundamental concepts of asset management. The participant should be able to discuss the internal and external factors that influence the development of a water and wastewater utility.
• Chapter 2 – Sharing Asset Management Knowledge on a Global Scale
Objectives: Study the experiences, processes and practices of water and wastewater companies in other countries to analyze how they are facing their own challenges. Explore how a web-based knowledge management support system can play a large role in supporting our learning and growth requirements and in helping us to collaboratively build on each other’s experiences and effectively share critical information.
• Chapter 3 – Asset Management Technologies
Objective: Become familiar with the current technology available in the country and how it is used to improve the offering of services and the conservation of resources in the water and wastewater industry
• Chapter 4 – Risk Management
Objectives: Identify and understand the kind of risks that are present in the water and wastewater industry.
Become familiar with the elements necessary to create a risk mitigation plan. Evaluate how an asset management program contributes to risk reduction.
• Chapter 5 – Government Regulations
Objective: Be aware of existing government regulations and initiatives to promote asset management in the water and wastewater industry independent of company size.
• Chapter 6 – Case Studies
Objective: Assess how advances in science and technology affect the development of viable asset management programs both in large cities and small towns. Examine specific cases and evaluate the application of technology and management plans in each particular situation.
• Chapter 7 – Development of Center of Excellence for Municipal Asset Management
Objectives: Be introduced to the Center of Excellence for water and wastewater asset management, which will be studied in more depth in the second phase of this certification program.
Phase 2
Practical – Introduces virtual CEMAM (Center of Excellence for Municipal Asset Management). Learn how to utilize the virtual CEMAM with real-world examples through actual data from existing utilities. Each participant must complete an evaluation during this phase.
Objective: Provide the participant the opportunity to manipulate, analyze and visualize national and international utility data. Also, the Center provides valuable information related to the industry in addition to education and training opportunities.
Phase 3
Application to the Industry – You will become familiar with organizations, institutions, fairs, events and many other activities and resources in the industry. Each participant must complete an evaluation during this phase.
Objective: To allow the participants the opportunity to become familiar with organizations, institutions, fairs, events and many other activities and resources in the industry.

What are the benefits of CTAM?CTAM will provide the participant with knowledge and resources in asset management that qualify him/her to initiate, continue and/or improve an asset management program for their community. CTAM will:

The CTAM online course registration fee is $345 USD, which includes a manual, Guide to Water and Wastewater Asset Management (an $80 value), chapter exams, exercises, industry access and your certificate of completion.
